Search for Missing Boater Is Unsuccessful

The Coast Guard searched without success Wednesday for a sailboat that left San Pedro on Sunday and failed to show up as scheduled in Morro Bay.
The search for the 42-foot La Ultima and its skipper, Mike Pender of Arroyo Grande, began after his wife called to say he had been expected in Morro Bay on Tuesday.
Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer Lance Jones said a four-engine plane and a helicopter had searched throughout the day, and a cutter continued the search into the night.
