Appeal Courts Are Forgetting the Victims

Re “Girl’s Accused Killer Nears His Third Trial,” Oct. 8:
The Times article about Rodney Alcala’s new trial should be required reading for the judges on the courts of appeal that keep granting him a new trial. The agony that Marianne Connelly, the victim’s mother, goes through each time is well described.
Alcala is one of the most evil men to ever go before my father, Judge Don McCartin. To continue granting him a new trial and subjecting the brave Connelly to another round of what must be absolute torture is inhumane. Twenty-three years on death row is ludicrous. Alcala will probably outlive us all.
