Longest Teacher Strike in State Ends; No Accord

Nearly 700 teachers voted to end the longest teacher strike in state history when they returned to work without a contract in Marysville, about 30 miles north of Seattle.
The strike by the Marysville Education Assn. delayed the start of classes for more than seven weeks.
On Monday, Superior Court Judge Linda C. Krese declared that the walkout was illegal and a cause of irreparable harm to the district, students and their families.
The teachers quickly voted by a more than 2-to-1 margin to comply with her order to return to work. No further talks were scheduled.
