From Times Wire Reports
Police Chief Richard Word has started a new violence reduction plan to target some of Oakland’s high-crime neighborhoods.
The objective of the plan, known as Project SAFE, for Supplemental and Focused Enforcement, is to reduce street-level violence “through coordinated and sustained actions” by Oakland police, outside agencies and community resources, Word said.
The plan will cost about $307,000 every three months, including overtime and new equipment. Word said the program will not require cost-cutting in other areas.
