It’s About the Story, Not the Technique

Regarding “Disney Pushed Toward Digital,” Sept. 29: Media analyst Jeffrey Logsdon not- withstanding, consumer expectations are not driven by a new type of animation that has three dimensions. Consumers want a good story. Digital animation is only a technique to tell a story.
There is no amount of digital animation that can save a bad story. DreamWorks’ “Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas” and Disney’s “Treasure Planet” bombed at the box office because they didn’t have good stories. Pixar knows how to tell a good story, first and foremost. I suspect Pixar could use just about any technique and still produce blockbusters.
