Opposition Calls Off Talks After Slaying

Cambodia’s two opposition parties said they won’t attend a meeting aimed at forming a new government because of the slaying of a reporter for an opposition radio station.

The announcement dashed hopes of ending a political deadlock, which had appeared to be heading toward a resolution after the parties agreed to meet with Prime Minister Hun Sen and his party Monday.

Chuor Chetharith, a reporter for the Funcinpec party’s Tapum radio station, was shot in front of the station Saturday. No arrests were made. Police declined to say whether they believed the shooting was politically motivated, but Funcinpec spokesman Neou Kassie noted that the killing happened two days after Hun Sen criticized a Tapum talk show as biased.
