Citing Misconduct, Court Overturns Convictions

In a sharp rebuke of prosecutorial misconduct, the Illinois Supreme Court ordered new trials for Jimmie Parker and Clyde Cowley, convicted in the 1995 slaying of Chicago police officer Daniel Doffyn.
The court threatened to overturn more cases to stem what it called the “alarming frequency” of misconduct by prosecutors.
The state Supreme Court had thrown out the conviction and death sentence of the alleged triggerman, Murray Blue, in 2000, for similar reasons.
