Trainer O’Neill Looks to Increase His Lead
- Share via
The runaway leader in the Oak Tree trainer standings, Doug O’Neill will be active today on a day with a pick six carry-over of $302,301.
A winner with 12 of 32 starters in Arcadia, O’Neill has horses entered in four of the eight races on the card, including three of the races in the pick six.
Annie’s Got A Gun, who broke her maiden by daylight at Fairplex Park, will meet a weak field of $25,000 2-year-old fillies in the second, and while she will have to improve, it’s a distinct possibility given the fact she has made only two career starts.
In the third, I’m Awesome Again is likely to be favored as he tries claimers for the first time against six other 2-year-old maidens entered for the $80,000 tag.
The son of Awesome Again should have the early lead under Patrick Valenzuela.
Trickinthepark, who won sprinting the last time he ran on a mile track, is a danger from off the pace in the fourth, a $25,000 starter allowance for 2-year-olds, while Professor Higgins will be meeting winners for the first time in the fifth after beating $32,000 maidens on Sept. 18.
Race of the day: Offlee Wild, who won the Holy Bull at 27-1 this winter and later ran fourth in the Fountain Of Youth and third in the Blue Grass, drops out of graded stakes company to take on 11 rivals in a $54,000 allowance at Keeneland.
The 1 1/16-mile race is the eighth on the card. Calvin Borel will ride the 3-year-old son of Wild Again for the Azalea Stables and trainer Tom Smith.
One for the road: Skeet has won four of six on the turf, and he should get enough pace to chase in today’s $75,000 Woodford County at 5 1/2 furlongs on the Keeneland lawn. Rene Douglas will ride the 3-year-old Dove Hunt colt for trainer Bob Holthus. Other contenders include Tricky Storm, Wudantunoit, Joe’s Son Joey, Testify and Abderian.
Exotically speaking: A pick four using Fly to The Lake, Moonlit Moment and The Poseur in the fifth, Sunny Outcome, Ashley’s Folly and The General’s Lady in the sixth, Lucky In Love and The Borg Queen in the seventh and Montanasdixichick and Wiki Wiki Magic in the eighth.
Winners: Previous day/meet total: 5/42. Money: Previous day/meet total: $28.40/$206.60. Total money bet: $242.
