National League of Cities to Honor Police Program

The Pasadena Police Department is to receive the National League of Cities’ highest honor Monday.
The league will present its Helen Putnam Award of Excellence to the city and its Police Department for the development and implementation of the Youth Accountability Board.
The award “recognizes and promotes the outstanding efforts and innovative solutions of city governments to: improve the quality of life in local communities; implement efficiencies in service delivery and operations; and provide service responsive to local needs,” said Janet Pope, adjutant to the police chief.
The presentation will be at 6 p.m. in the City Council chambers, 100 N. Garfield Ave.
The Youth Accountability Board “is comprised of local citizens who meet monthly to resolve criminal causes,” Pope said. “The program provides interventions and alternatives to the usual juvenile justice. It has been so successful in positively affecting the lives of troubled youths that there are now six boards in Pasadena serving dozens of youths each year.”
