A fire that has burned 800 acres in the Lytle Creek area near Wrightwood in San Bernardino County was 20% contained Thursday as 680 firefighters capitalized on overnight humidity to help slow the blaze, authorities said.
“The fog rolled in last night after we had attacked the fire with aircraft, and that helped us,” said Melody Lardner, a U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman.
Eight aircraft, nine bulldozers and 55 fire engines remained on the scene in the hills of Lone Pine Canyon. Authorities kept portions of Lytle Creek Road and all of Lone Pine Canyon Road closed and placed firefighters near three ranches threatened by flames.
Lardner said one firefighter suffered a minor knee injury.
