One bombshell after another for Halle

NEW YORK — The new issue of Elle magazine features the now estranged-from-her-hubby Halle Berry on its cover, with the headline, “How to Be a Modern Bombshell.” I’m sure Berry, who just put her marriage to R&B; singer Eric Benet on hold, is feeling anything but bombshell-like today.

In the mag she says, “I’ve been through 12 steps this year.... I’ve been through it with my husband -- but it’s not about alcohol.” She doesn’t say what it was for. The couple met in 1999 and wed in January 2001.

Berry tells writer Kevin Sessums: “Part of falling in love with Eric was because he is such a good father.” And Berry has been a very good mother to Benet’s daughter, India, who calls her Mommy. (India’s biological mother died in a car wreck 10 years ago.)

So before we all get excited and start pairing Berry up with this or that male, let’s hope for a reconciliation or at least a parting that doesn’t get ugly. (Berry’s already had enough trauma: conflicts about being biracial, an abusive father, a battering boyfriend, a 1996 divorce from former major leaguer David Justice that led to her suicide attempt, a 2000 automobile crash -- and then an infamous aggressive lip lock from Adrien Brody when he won his Oscar last March.
