Fire Threatens Three Ranches Near Wrightwood

A wildfire that burned about 800 acres south of the Cajon Pass on Wednesday afternoon drew a quick response from San Bernardino County and U.S. Forest Service firefighters, but it remained out of control.
The fire started about 2 p.m. about five miles southeast of Wrightwood. The cause was under investigation.
Authorities closed Lytle Creek Road to everyone but residents and ordered Lone Pine Canyon Road closed from California 138 to Wrightwood.
No injuries had been reported by early Wednesday evening, but the flames threatened three ranches along Lone Pine Canyon Road and prompted firefighters to dig in to protect the homes and ranch buildings, authorities said.
Six air tankers, more than 30 engines, three helicopters and a water-dropping plane responded as the fire spread.
Melody Lardner, a spokeswoman for the Forest Service, said the fire burned chaparral on a ridge top, five or six miles from timber.
