Two Britons who bore children using sperm from their dead husbands claimed a crucial victory in the legal battle to have their deceased partners recognized as fathers. The birth certificates for Diane Blood’s two sons and Joanne Tarbuck’s son identify no father.
Government lawyers acknowledged that existing law contradicts the European Convention on Human Rights, and legislation is pending to change the law, which states that a man is not legally the father if his sperm is used after his death.
