Shingles sideline David Letterman

The eye infection that kept David Letterman from hosting his “Late Show” on CBS this week was caused by shingles, his doctor said.
The condition is a viral infection of the nerve roots that typically results in pain and rash. It’s caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. “Dave is on his way to a full recovery,” said Dr. Louis J. Aronne.
“Late Show” will be in reruns next week.
