Crowd Protests Removal of 5 Terrorist Suspects

Police fired tear gas to disperse a violent crowd protesting the secret deportation of five Muslim foreign nationals suspected of being Al Qaeda agents.
Nearly 200 protesters said the government of President Bakili Muluzi had caved in to U.S. pressure by secretly handing over the suspects to CIA agents a day before a court banned the deportation. The men were accused of funneling money to Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda terrorist network.
