A woman and her 5-year-old son were killed when they were struck by a vehicle as they crossed the street near their home Tuesday night, police said.
Maria Gutierrez-Cervantes, 32, and her son, Christopher Farias, were hit in the 7000 block of Shoup Avenue about 9:15 p.m.
Los Angeles Police Det. Bill Bustos said the two were crossing in the middle of the block where there is no crosswalk.
The driver was not cited.
The pedestrians darted in front of the car, said Sgt. Cameron Dunnet.
The driver said that “all of a sudden, they were right in front of her,” Dunnet said.
