An unsafe lane change by a 19-year-old woman sparked a four-vehicle crash Thursday morning on California 126 near Fillmore, authorities said.
Miquel Flemmings of Los Angeles was driving her Ford Probe east near Old Telegraph Road about 9:15 a.m. when she changed lanes and struck a Ford Contour driven by Kathleen Souhrada, 51, of Camarillo, California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Reid said.
Souhrada’s car then struck a guardrail and plunged 100 feet down an embankment. She was airlifted to Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura with a fractured neck. She was listed in serious but stable condition.
Reid said that after hitting the Contour, Flemmings’ car spun out of control and crossed into the westbound lanes, where it struck a Chevrolet Impala and a big rig. Impala driver Eduardo Dorantes, 33, of Fillmore and truck driver Eddie Granados, 46, of Oxnard were not injured.
Flemmings suffered a cut on her left knee. No citations have been issued but the crash remained under investigation.
The crash caused major traffic backups in both directions for several hours.
