* A group of Florida smokers asked a Miami appeals court to reconsider its May ruling that threw out a $145-billion judgment against Altria Group Inc.’s Philip Morris USA unit, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Holdings Inc. and other U.S. cigarette makers. The ruling by the three-judge appellate panel said 700,000 Florida smokers must bring their claims individually and not as a group.
* PeopleSoft Inc., which is buying one rival, J.D. Edwards & Co., and fighting off a hostile takeover attempt by another, Oracle Corp., said J.D. Edwards shareholders would get a combination of cash and stock valued at $14.74 for each share held. The cash component is $7.05 and the stock portion is valued at $7.69.
* Alan Citron was named senior vice president of marketing for Movielink, the online film download service based in Santa Monica.
* Qualcomm Inc. of San Diego raised its dividend 40% to 7 cents a share.
* Clorox Co. of Oakland said it would increase its quarterly dividend by 23% to 27 cents a share.
