J&J; to Pay $15 Million in Interpore Lawsuit

From Bloomberg News

Johnson & Johnson, the world’s second-biggest health-care products company, will pay $15 million and future royalties to settle a lawsuit claiming it infringed an Irvine company’s patent for a screw used in spinal implants.

Interpore International Inc. sued Johnson & Johnson’s DePuy AcroMed Inc. unit, saying the business used technology protected by Interpore patents. DePuy, the second-biggest maker of spinal implants, agreed to settle the suit after a federal judge in Santa Ana ruled against it, Interpore said.

Shares of Interpore rose $1.10 to $7.14 on Nasdaq. Shares of Johnson & Johnson fell $1.43 to $52.18 on the NYSE.
