The lowdown: McCardell caught an eight-yard scoring pass, and Dwight Smith returned the third interception of a Gannon pass 44 yards for a score. The Raiders got a score on a long pass to Jerry Porter that had to be reviewed by the officials, who reversed their second call of the game. It was 34-9 at the end of the quarter, and the Raider Nation appeared to be leaving the stadium, as well as the map.
Big play: Smith’s scoring run with the interception appeared to be the final blow.
Unanswered question: What was the cumulative loss of hearing for those in attendance after a halftime show that created new records for decibel levels?
Did you notice? Raider starting middle linebacker Napoleon Harris was helped off the field early in the quarter and taken to the locker room a short time later. He did not return during the quarter.
