Hate Crimes

Re “3 Beating Suspects to Stand Trial,” Jan. 18: The three men who assaulted Trev Broudy in West Hollywood will not be charged with a hate crime because there was no evidence the attack was motivated by the victim’s sexual orientation. However, the defendants admitted they went to West Hollywood with the specific intent to rob “white people with money.”
Therefore, shouldn’t the defendants be charged with a hate crime because they were specifically motivated to commit a crime against a person based on race? Are white people not afforded the same protection under the law as everyone else? I guess not.
