* Misty Alvarado’s seven-footer at the buzzer gave Carpinteria a 45-43 first-round upset of Lancaster Paraclete (17-4) in Southern Section Division IV-AA. Alvarado’s basket, the last of her 16 points, capped an 11-point comeback for Carpinteria, which improved to 14-12 after its 49-45 victory over Santa Monica Crossroads.
* Janevia Taylor scored 25 of her team’s 35 points, including the game-winning basket with three seconds left to give San Bernardino a 35-34 victory over Huntington Beach Edison in a Division II-AA second-round game.
* Tanecia Harvey’s free throw with 11 seconds left gave second-seeded Carson a 48-47 victory over Los Angeles in a City Section first-round game.
UPSETS
* Stephanie Duda scored 28 points and Caroline Howe made two free throws with four seconds left to give Division I-A wild-card entrant Los Alamitos a 54-50 first-round victory over Walnut (20-7).
* Norrelle Dickson had 11 points and 19 rebounds, and Orange El Modena upset fourth-seeded Whittier La Serna, 49-40, in the second round of Division II-A.
LOOKING AHEAD
* Perhaps the toughest division from top to bottom, Division II-AA continues Wednesday with San Bernardino at third-seeded Perris and Corona Centennial at second-seeded Alhambra Keppel. In Division IV-AA, fourth-seeded Cerritos Valley Christian plays at Montebello Cantwell Sacred Heart, last season’s Division IV-A champion.
