Bringing back Bolivian memories
Anne Broyles’ excellent article, “Floating Into a Different World” (Jan. 26), brought back a flood of memories. I lived in Trinidad, Bolivia, as an exchange student in 1978 and ’79. I took a voyage down the Mamore River very similar to Broyles’, though in a much more rustic boat. Trinidad and the state of Beni are beautiful places to experience the friendly charm of Bolivians and the wonders of the upper Amazon.
Broyles didn’t mention the piranhas, which are rampant in the river. They don’t bite unless you’re bleeding, and attacks on people are rare.
