Suspected communist guerrillas attacked a police station southeast of Manila, killing three officers and a civilian, the Philippine national police chief said.
About five gunmen, believed to be members of the New People’s Army, attacked the station in Gubat town in Sorsogon province late Friday, Hermogenes Ebdane said.
Gubat, about 240 miles southeast of Manila, is in the Bicol region of the main island of Luzon, where the rebels are active. The rebels have been fighting for a Marxist government since the late 1960s.
