SAN FRANCISCO — Federal health reviewers have cleared Stop AIDS Project workshops that were criticized as potentially obscene and appearing to promote sexual activity.
Officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the project’s activities were based on “current behavioral science theories in the area of health promotion,” according to a letter written by Dr. Julie L. Gerberding, director of the CDC.
The workshops had brought a complaint by an Indiana congressman to the secretary of Health and Human Services.
