2 Die in Apparent Murder-Suicide

Oxnard police Thursday were investigating the apparent murder-suicide of a married couple whose bodies were found by a neighbor.

Authorities were called to a home in the 2000 block of Falkner Place about 1:30 p.m. by a neighbor who had gone to check on the couple, police said.

The neighbor found the bodies of the 64-year-old woman and 59-year-old man in a bedroom. Their names were not released pending notification of relatives.

Police said the wife was suffering from a terminal illness and her husband had a history of heart problems. Investigators believe the husband shot his wife and then himself.

Johnny Gonzalez, 26, who lives nearby, said he was told the neighbor entered the home because he had not seen the couple for at least two days.

Autopsies are scheduled for today.
