Soundtrack for the 20th century
For a sense of what the unsteady transition to 20th century music sounded like, look no further than Saturday’s Santa Barbara Symphony program, “Unarmed Revolution.” The period’s new ideas in musical thought -- which challenged convention, to say the least -- will be represented by Debussy’s “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun” and Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring.” Bridging the two works will be the Sibelius Violin Concerto, with guest violinist Yuval Yaron. Music director is Gisele Ben-Dor.
Santa Barbara Symphony, Arlington Theatre, 1317 State St., Santa Barbara. Saturday, 8 p.m.; Sunday, 3 p.m. $18 to $45. (805) 898-9386. www.thesymphony.org.
