A tractor-trailer carrying 44,000 pounds of powdered boric acid was stolen last week from an industrial area in Riverside County, police said.
The theft, which occurred after the driver parked the rig overnight off California 91, did not appear to be an act of terrorism, said Corona Police Sgt. Jacque Nielsen.
The substance, often used as an antiseptic, is also found in eye-wash solutions, insecticides and fertilizers.
Police described the truck’s cab as a green, 1996 Freightliner with the California license plate 9B89830. The red flatbed container had the Oregon plate HQ57530.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (909) 736-2333.
