What: Isles Prime Time Shootout
Who: Westchester (22-2) vs. Akron (Ohio) St. Vincent-St. Mary (14-1)
Where: Sovereign Bank Arena, Trenton, N.J.
When: 4:30 p.m. PST today
At stake: Westchester players would like to restore their slim national championship hopes while handing nationally top-ranked St. Vincent-St. Mary its first on-court loss of the season. The Fighting Irish had to forfeit one game after the Ohio High School Athletic Assn. ruled standout LeBron James ineligible for accepting free sports jerseys from a clothing store. A judge temporarily overturned that ruling Wednesday, allowing James to play against Westchester. Comet forward Trevor Ariza is expected to guard James in a matchup of 6-foot-8 players. Westchester Coach Ed Azzam said the Comets will stick to the same pressing, up-tempo style that has served them well, except in losses to Los Angeles Fairfax and New York City Brother Rice. It will behoove Westchester not to overlook St. Vincent-St. Mary’s other players, including forward Romeo Travis and sweet-shooting guard Dru Joyce, the coach’s son. James’ supporting cast came through in January at the Pangos Dream Classic, where the Fighting Irish defeated Santa Ana Mater Dei, 64-58.
Television: Fox Sports Net 2 and the YES Network, available throughout the Southland on DirecTV Channel 622, will broadcast the game live.
