Mogul and Wife Sue Botox Maker, Doctor

A Hollywood power couple have sued Botox-maker Allergan Inc. and prominent Beverly Hills dermatologist Arnold W. Klein, alleging that treatments with the drug have left Irena Medavoy bedridden with fever, fatigue, hives over much of her body and unrelenting migraine headaches.
Mike Medavoy, head of Phoenix Pictures, former chairman of Tri-Star Pictures and co-founder of Orion Pictures, contends in the suit that his wife’s condition has left him companionless.
The couple say in court documents that Klein gave Irena three face and skull Botox injections last March for the treatment of migraine headaches, even though the use of Botox for migraine treatment is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
Allergan, headquartered in Irvine, said it stands behind the safety of Botox and will vigorously defend itself from what it described as a frivolous suit.
The suit, filed Jan. 23 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleges that Klein failed to disclose the risks of the injections or that it could “disseminate” to other areas of the body.
The action seeks unspecified damages from Klein and Allergan.
A hearing is set June 24 in Santa Monica Superior Court.
