From Times Staff Reports
The various campaigns to defeat secession reported Monday that they spent more than $7.5 million to kill the breakup proposals on last November’s ballot.
Mayor James K. Hahn’s L.A. United reported that it raised $6.22 million last year.
Campaign committees formed by City Council members and the city attorney took in $1.37 million. Richard Katz, chairman of the Valley Independence Committee, said his pro-secession campaign raised less than $900,000.
Katz criticized the opposition for accepting major contributions from developers and city contractors.
