A San Juan Capistrano man was taken into federal custody Tuesday pending sentencing after pleading guilty to running a scam involving charitable collections.
Mitchell David Gold, 44, was to have been sentenced, but the hearing was delayed until July 23. Gold’s company raised money for charities but turned over only a fraction of the proceeds, prosecutors said.
Gold also pleaded guilty to mail fraud in connection with a scheme to cheat golfers out of $8 million.
