Litterbugs and Butts

Why do smokers feel that it is acceptable to leave their stubbed-out cigarette butts on the street? Our streets are swept clean by rain that flows into storm drains and then out to the Pacific Ocean. Cigarette butts make up the majority of this trash. Why not use a trash can or maybe that clever little device that comes standard in most cars--the ashtray? I am appalled by the flagrant littering and subsequent environmental damage smokers inflict on this Earth on a daily basis. I see no reason why the rest of us should be forced to clean up after these lazy litterbugs. Smokers, please, limit the harm cigarettes cause to your own bodies, and don’t let one bad habit lead to another.
