“Assembly OKs Classes on Gay Foster Children” (Aug. 20), regarding Assembly Bill 2651 (to establish gay and lesbian sensitivity training for foster parents), wherein Assemblyman Dennis Mountjoy (R-Monrovia) is quoted as saying, “It’s not OK to be gay.” This demonstrates the attitudes of the members of the Assembly’s Republican caucus, and their votes show why the Republican Party has been in the cellar for many years.
The Republican Party needs to represent all the people in California and not be a party of minority interests. If the Republicans want victory in 2002 they need to stop with their obsession in making those in the homosexual community second-class citizens and focus on the issues that make the lives of all Californians better.
