DNA Test Leads to Charges in 1992 Killings

Testing of DNA found on the sweatband of a baseball cap led authorities to file murder charges in a 10-year-old double homicide against a man already facing trial in a killing, a Los Angeles County prosecutor said Monday.
Renal Wise Jr., 31, of Hawthorne was arraigned Monday on charges of stabbing and killing Alina Casteleiro and Nicole Paquette during a burglary and robbery on Dec. 22, 1992, in Hawthorne. The baseball cap was found in the backyard of that home, Deputy Dist. Atty. Darrell S. Mavis said.
Wise also is charged with strangling Mary Ella Shoupe, 57, on Sept. 10, 2000. He could face the death penalty if convicted.
