Westerfield Jury Ends Week Without a Verdict

The jury in the David Westerfield trial deliberated for three hours Friday before adjourning for the weekend. It was the jury’s seventh day of deliberation.
Westerfield is accused of the kidnap and murder of 7-year-old Danielle van Dam. On Friday, the jury asked to review testimony from the county medical examiner and an entomologist who examined insects found on Danielle’s body.
The medical examiner testified he was unable to determine the cause of death. The entomologist, called by the defense, suggested the body was dumped in a rural area while Westerfield was being watched 24 hours a day by police.
