Former Maj. Gen. Augustin Bizimungu, head of Rwanda’s armed forces during a 1994 genocide, was transferred to the U.N. tribunal in Tanzania to stand trial for his alleged part in the slaughter of at least half a million people.
Bizimungu was flown to Arusha, Tanzania, from Luanda, Angola, said Kingsley Moghalu, spokesman for the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.
Bizimungu, accused of being one of the organizers of the 100-day massacre in Rwanda, will soon appear in court to face charges of genocide, conspiracy to commit genocide and crimes against humanity, Moghalu said.
