A 67-year-old Camarillo man was killed Thursday afternoon when he lost control and overturned the Jeep he was driving, authorities said.
The man’s identity was withheld pending notification of his family.
The crash occurred at about 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Las Posas Road and Fifth Street in an unincorporated area between Oxnard and Camarillo, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Steve Reed.
Heading east on Fifth Street, the man was driving on the dirt shoulder in an attempt to pass slow traffic when he lost control of his vehicle, which overturned several times. He was not wearing his seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, Reed said.
