After failing to settle out of court, Monterey Park and two water companies have filed suits against more than 40 parties they say are responsible for the cleanup of ground-water contamination in the South El Monte area.
Monterey Park, San Gabriel Valley Water Co. and Southern California Water Co. said they have spent more than $6 million to ensure that their water is free of perchlorate and other contaminants.
The defendants, named previously by the EPA as responsible parties in the South El Monte Superfund site, range from large corporations, such as Aerojet and Teledyne, to small businesses.
