Top Police Officer Quits After Uribe Takes Over

Colombian Defense Minister Marta Lucia Ramirez announced the resignation of the country’s top police officer, whose force was rocked by scandals that include the disappearance of about $2 million in U.S. anti-narcotics aid.
Gen. Ernesto Gilibert was widely expected to be removed as chief of the country’s National Police under the new government of right-wing President Alvaro Uribe.
