Study Faults Dentist Disciplinary Board
A state disciplinary board for dentists has experienced lengthy delays in concluding cases because of staff vacancies, poor record-keeping and poor management, an independent analysis ordered by state lawmakers found.
The Legislature removed the entire membership of the Dental Board of California last year amid allegations that it was not doing enough to discipline dentists. The analysis by two outside consultants was ordered at the same time.
A draft report submitted Friday to the board’s new members in San Francisco verifies lawmakers’ fears, said state Sen. Liz Figueroa (D-Fremont), who sponsored the legislation.
A final report to the Legislature is due next month.
