Passersby Rescue Family Hurt in Car Accident

Passersby rescued two children and their mother after a car veered off a road Friday and plunged 40 to 50 feet down a hillside, a fire official said.
The accident in the 3400 block of Coldwater Canyon Avenue occurred about 4:30 p.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Witnesses said that a boy and a girl, who appeared to be 5 to 7 years old, were thrown from the car and that the boy was pinned under the vehicle. Authorities said neither child was in a seat belt or child restraint.
“Some good Samaritans saw what happened” and “extricated the boy from under the car,” Humphrey said. By the time a rescue team arrived, the passersby had helped the three back up to the road, he said.
The children and their mother were taken by helicopter to County-USC Medical Center with serious but not life-threatening injuries, Humphrey said.
