Defending Champs Open With Water Polo Win

Defending champion New York Athletic Club struggled through the first three quarters of its pool-play game against Big Valley on Thursday in the U.S. Men’s Senior National Water Polo Tournament but rallied with five goals in the fourth quarter to win, 13-6, at Corona del Mar High in Newport Beach.
New York, which has won three of the last five championships and has five players from the 2000 Olympic team, defeated Navy Athletic Club, 24-1, earlier in the day. New York faces Stanford Water Polo Foundation at noon today.
Pool play continues today with games beginning at 8 a.m.
