Hospital: 27% of Births Were by Moms Over 35

When officials at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center recently reviewed their baby statistics for the past fiscal year, they found two surprises--the high number of multiple births, and a significant number of women older than 35 giving birth.
Multiple births jumped 56% over the previous year. Also, 27% of the women who gave birth there were older than 35. That’s much larger than the 3.8% of women of that age group nationally who gave birth, hospital officials said.
