From Times Staff, Wire Reports
Starting in 2003, students who graduate in the top 12.5% of their high school class can be sure of a place at the University of California, although some may need to go to community college first.
The program, known as “dual admissions,” could increase enrollment of black, Latino and American Indian students, whose numbers have declined at the top campuses since regents dropped their affirmative action programs in 1995.
The program, effective for fall 2003, was approved in committee Wednesday and passed by the full board, 14 to 3, Thursday.
