Helping Dick Cheney in His Time of Need

Re “Heating a Potato at the Cheneys,” July 18: Is this a joke? “Cheap” and “petty” are but two adjectives that come to my mind regarding mega-wealthy Vice President Cheney’s tacky request to get someone else (the U.S. Navy) to pay for the electricity that he and his family personally use. I mean, if the multimillionaire, former oil executive needs financial help to pay his utility bill, what hope is there for the regular citizens who must pay their own energy costs? If Cheney can’t afford to pay his way, perhaps he and the missus should move into something smaller.

What shameless gall! These Bushies really have no class. Corporate welfare appears to be an expected perk.

Regarding Cheney’s request for government help in paying the exorbitant energy bill at his mansion, we two liberal California Democrats (left-wing, radical, Commie bleeding hearts) have already mailed $5 apiece to the Cheneys as a nonfaith-based act of charity. We urge other Californians to do the same ($1 to $5 will do).

I think all Americans should support having Cheney’s electric bill paid by the U.S. Navy. The poor fellow only made his millions after graduating from the first Bush administration and joining the oil industry. Now he’s expected to give up his hard-won earnings just to be vice president. What with his socialized medical program, he is barely able to make it from one paycheck to the next.

Your July 19 editorial (“What Cheney Fears”) omits what I believe is a significant reason for the drop in the cost of energy, and that is a Democratic Senate with power to investigate the real reason for the increase to begin with.
