Regarding the news items “Antarctic Cruise Company Goes Out of Business” and “Cruise Lines Adopt Pollution Standards” (News, Tips & Bargains, June 17): I’ve always questioned the sanity of cruise ships, which I’m told burn a barrel of oil per ship length traveled, taking people and carbon dioxide pollution into pristine places like the poles. This will end in less than 40 years when the world’s oil is gone.
