You’ve prepared for big disasters such as earthquakes by storing drinking water and supplies, but it’s wise to prepare for little ones.

Don’t wait for a pipe to burst to start looking for a plumber or an electrician when the power’s out. That’s no time to open the Yellow Pages and pick out a big ad. It’s what the guys who charge big for immediate service count on. You’re in a jam and they know it.

Instead, be prepared. Ask neighbors whom they use and like. Ask hardware store people, too. Start an emergency phone list by category.

Good guys are always the busiest, so have them do a small repair in a nonemergency situation. When big stuff happens, you’ll be established with someone you know and trust.
