David Douillet of France and Yuan Hua of China closed out the judo competition with the final two gold medals.
Douillet, a 1996 gold medalist, won the men’s 100-plus kilogram, defeating Shinichi Shinohara of Japan. Tamerlan Tmenov of Russia and Indrek Pertelson of Estonia shared the bronze.
Yuan took the women’s 78-plus kilogram by beating Daima Mayelis Beltran of Cuba. Mayumi Yamashita of Japan and Kim Seon-Young of South Korea shared the bronze.
Japan made a mini comeback in the Sydney Games with four golds overall compared to three at Atlanta.
France, which won three golds in Atlanta, ended up with only two this time as Marie-Claire Restoux, a 1996 winner, failed to make the team.
