Tolly Leads Canyon Past La Sierra

Travis Tolly scored two second-half touchdowns and Canyon’s defense held Riverside La Sierra to 74 yards rushing in a 35-9 victory Thursday at El Modena High.
Canyon’s defense also intercepted La Sierra quarterback David Schroeder three times. The first interception was returned by Eddie Leos 57 yards for a touchdown with 1 minute 12 seconds left in the first half, giving Canyon a 14-7 lead.
La Sierra scored first, on a 38-yard run by Marcus Bandy midway through the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. Canyon (1-1) scored with 8:42 left in the second quarter when quarterback Brad Lusk went in from a yard out.
La Sierra was held to 81 yards in total offense in the first half and finished with 175 yards.
Chase Culver intercepted Schroeder four minutes into the second half and Canyon capitalized on the turnover when Tolly scored on a 21-yard run.
Tolly’s second score of the game, a 40-yard run four minutes into the fourth quarter, followed Darryl Parker’s interception of Schroeder.
After La Sierra punted on its next possession, Parker closed the scoring with a 38-yard touchdown run on Canyon’s second play of the series.
Tolly finished with 81 yards in eight carries. Parker had 68 yards in six carries.
